HP PC Software Issue On Vista - Unable To "See" DreamScreen 100

Okay – looking for a little direction here…

I have just gotten a HP Dreamscreen 100 for Christmas and was able to successfully upgrade the firmware on it to the latest released version and we able to setup to connect both via wired Ethernet or wireless. My problem lies in getting Windows Vista to see the Dreamscreen. I know the Dreamscreen is “advertising” like it supposed to, (I also installed the PC software on a WinXP machine and Windows7 PC and both were able to “see” the Dreamscreen, just not my Vista machines). I’ve gone as far as to install the PC Software on two different Windows Vista PC’s and neither of them see the DreamScreen. I have verified all the steps in the troubleshooting doc: Faq Doc as well as in the: Make sure that Windows Media Player 11 or 12 is installed and configured for sharing document, but no luck. Both Vista PC’s are setup for Media Sharing and are sharing media with other devices on my home network.

I’ve Goggled extensively and only found reference to making sure that the DreamScreen, or any device, is in the same workgroup as the Vista boxes, but there’s no way to configure that on the Dreamscreen. So…no luck with this.

I’ve tried resetting the Dreamscreen back to factory defaults, backdating the firmware, updating the firmware, etc. and no luck!

Something this easy shouldn’t be this hard, but maybe I’m just missing something. Look forward to any direction!

Re: HP PC Software Issue On Vista - Unable To "See" DreamScreen 100

I am glad to see someone else with the same problem.  I have been troubleshooting my frame for the past 3 days....:smileymad:  I did manage to learn a few things...

1. I have confirmed the DreamScreen works fine with all of my XP machines.  This only true however when the vista machine has it's ethernet adapter disabled.  Once disabled the frame sees all the PCs on the network and streams photos.

2. As a secondary step I reconnected the vista machine and from the photos's page clicked to option button and now the vista machine showed in the list of machines with media to share.  The bad thing is that when you go to stream the frame either locks up or shows folders but never gets to sharing pictures.

I just found some interesting options in vista under admistrative tools for Advanced Firewall settings.  I am going to play here for a awhile and see if I can find all the ports and applications that are supposed to be allowed for this thing to run.
