HP Scanjet 4070 install failure on WIN XP SP3

Hi! Somebody already asked this question, but there was no answer. I can give more details, maybe this makes easier to find the solution. I have been used the scanner for many years. Recently I reinstalled my WINDOWS (it was already 6 years old.) After installing the programs, I installed the scanner driver, too. The scanner was functioning properly. After it, I made very few modifications on the operation system (I installed a jpg compress progam, but removed it soon. Later I installed a new driver for Genius tablet.) Some weeks later, I clicked on the icon of the scanner on the desktop, but nothing happened. The scanner could not be started from the Start menu, either. I had no other idea, but removed the scanner driver and reinstall it. However, this time no icons were produced on the desktop. The Start menu contained only an uninstall possibility. I tried the .exe files in the folder Program Files/HP/Digital Imaging/bin, because the icon which started the program former linked to this folder. One of the files started something, but one can use the scanner with it only with huge restrictions.

Later I installed the driver in a HP laptop, too. During installation I noticed the difference, that in the laptop the install program displayed some picture ads, while on the PC only the HP logo could be seen during installation. On the laptop, the install program has created the desktop icons, too. The scanner is working perfectly on the laptop.

Investigating the Program Files/HP folder, one can note, that this folder contains 179 MB (3446 files and 98 subfolders) on the laptop, while these data on the PC are only 32.3 MB (380 files and 34 subfolders).

Have anybody some idea, how can I use the scanner on the PC, as well?

Thanks,

Attila Nagy
