HP SimpleSave (Simple Save) problems seeing drive on 'My Computer' screen with C: etc...

I just bought this HP SimpleSave 320 GB I believe, for Christmas.  I backed up 2 laptops (one was Vista, the other XP) and saved them under two different files and now I can't even find the hard drive when I plug in the USB cable.  I get a flashing blue light for a while with 8-10 clicking sounds (no i didn't drop it or anything) and then a solid blue light with the sound windows makes when something new is plugged into a usb slot.  The USB 'Safely Remove Hardware' Icon comes up but that's it.  When I click on my computer it shows my C: D: E: and F: (last two are CD drives) and that's it no portable mass storage device or HP SimpleSave screen comes up.  The light stays solid blue for an extended period of time and then flashes blue for the rest of the day.

Can someone please help me?  I've downloaded the most recent software from the weblink provided by bob in another message stream, but when I try to run the HPSimpleSave.exe file I get an error message saying "this application must be launched directly from the original HP SimpleSave storage solution."

Please help I just want to get my files back... I was intending on transferring them all to one computer but now it is turning into a nightmare.  Any advice is appreciated.

Isnt this terrible!!!!! I  bought mine in MARCH of this year. I bought it at Statples! They seem to be helpless and will not reurn  my money even though  HP clearly says the program is good for 2 years!!!!!!!!  Ellen

The bottom line is the program DOES NOT WORK!  Now we know why HP is going out of business! Lots of luck to us all. Ellen Wiest

Hi,

     I purchased an hp simple save to run an off computer XP MODE. I set it up and for months I had NO PROBLEM. Then I just plugged it in and you know that BLUE LIGHT. Well that's all I got and some clicking noise as though the drive read is stuck. I have kept the drive in the little pouch it came with when not in use and never dropped it or even moved it much. What's up HP????? Does anyone think we will get help?

You can only use the origional (USB) cord supplied with the drive. Try it!

Thank you, yes it does require to use the original cable, extra thick compare to regular, I just found out by post.
