HP Simplesave 1TB wont accept new files.

Hi, so I recently purchased a HP Simplesave 1TB from Staples. It seemed to be working fine, and now when i go to transfer movies or shows from my desktop it does half the job, then it slows down to almost 2.34MB/s. when it started at like a couple hundred MB/s. Any ideas why? It just started to do it, I dont have a receipt for it, otherwise i would take it back. I like the harddrive, i just want the thing to work properly. Any suggestions guys?
