HP Touchpad proxy?

I am a teacher and my school uses a proxy server. I can connect to the wifi just fine, but I can't do anything because I can't set a proxy server. Is there a way to do this either in the webOS browser or somewhere else? if not, is this something that can be added in the next update?

Re: HP Touchpad proxy?

You can adjust the settings for the WiFi connection (DNS server, etc) under the Settings->WiFi on the TouchPad. Perhaps you can make the needed adjustments using this feature.

Re: HP Touchpad proxy?

It would be great if HP could provide proxy setting support. I find it strange we have VPN and Anyaccess but no manual proxy setting capability.

Thanks. The topic has been raised more than once on that forum and they directed us back to HP. Will bookmark the forum for the future though.

Re: HP Touchpad proxy?

[FIX]

Hey gang,

Just an update if anyone is still having problems with this. I've been helping a school who've taken a shipment of 30 without realising the hassle involved with setting up a proxy.

The device needs to be in developer mode, which can be acheived by typing "upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart" without the quotes into the "JustType" section, and selecting Developer Mode Enabler.

You will then need to download the webOS emulator software from HP, which will enable you to use the "novaterm" command in your command line utility.

Once you have all this in place you need to plug the device in (not usb storage mode) and open up your command line. Type "novaterm" which will connect you as root user within your device (don't make any sudden movements!).

With all this sorted, you need to type in the following command:

luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.connectionmanager/configureNwProxies '{"action":add",proxyInfo":{"proxyScope":"default","proxyServer":"INSERT YOUR PROXY URL HERE","proxyPort":INSERT PORT NUMBER HERE}}'

This should return the line

{"returnValue":true}

Once you've done this, type exit and press enter, this should restore you to your current machine. Unplug the device and restart it, you should now be able to surf through your proxy!

In order to remove the proxy settings, replace "add" with "rmv".

Hope this has been of some help to the people trying to connect through a proxy!

Oli

Re: HP Touchpad proxy?

Hi,

Thanks for helping on this topic, I'm also trying to set up a proxy server. I have managed to use novaterm to acces the root of the device, however when I tried the command you suggest it returns this error:

failed to parse JSON

Any ideas?

Re: HP Touchpad proxy?

thanks Oli. I'll need to wait for an app otherwise I'd be changing back and forth every day. Hopefully with you confirming proxy support is embedded internally it won't be too long. Cheers mate.
