How flexible is Wiaacmg?

I was only getting scan speed of something like over one minute a page on my scanner so I asked HP why my Scanjet 5590 scanner was so slow using the control buttons on the side of the machine.  A very helpful and knowledgeable person suggested that I use the “RUN” facility on the computer with the word “Wiaacmgr” typed into the block.

I did this and achieved speeds of eight seconds a page but dissatisfied as ever I now have another problem and that is that the scanned pages do not appear to be amenable to any form of editing even copying and pasting onto a Word page.

Can anyone throw any light on this because otherwise I’m forced back onto the one minute a page scan.
