Installing driver for ScanJet 5300C on computer using Windows XP

I have no problem installing the driver/software from HP's website.  However when I reconnect the scanner (using USB cable) and restart the computer, when I try to start the scanner an hourglass appears momentarily, but then nothing else happens.  Has anyone found a way to get the scanner to work after installing the driver?

 

Before my hard-drive crashed, the scanner worked fine.  Since putting in a new hard-drive, I have been unable to get the scanner to work at all.

i have HP Scanner ( ScanJet 5300C Model No. C7690B which is not working properly.... i need of acutal driver ....... kindly help in this matter.
