NIC failure

Dear,

 

Are there any chances for Server to reboot if NIC fails. When should i confirm that NIC has failed.

I seem to be having the same problem.  A power surge killed my Verizon FIOS battery backup and router a few weeks ago and now my server seems to boot, but the network connection is not working. The connection light on the router is not flashing.  I switched cables and that didn't help.  I have restarted multiple times.  Any thoughts?
