[Request] Release WebOS to the Open Source Community. [ Edited ]

Please HP, if you are going to abandon the Touchpad and WebOS then would you consider releasing WebOS to the open source community under version 2 of the GPL.  That would just be the icing on the cake.

I agree that this should be left to the community now that hp has abandoned the device and the users. To continue it's best to leave it to an open source so that we can continue to make some good out of the product for all.

they've said that they arent killing the software, are you people so naive that you think they're going to open source a platform that they've sunk billions into? And under GPL it would be a nightmare, no businesses would use or modify it, any work would require that they also open source it... If you're comparing to android, its actually under a apache license.

This 'request' has nothing to do with wanting to improve webOS. It is being made so people can put Android OS on TouchPad.

Don't forget that HP hasn't abandoned webOS as software. They simple stopped making tables and phone devices.
