Scan slides and LARGE TRANSPAREN CIES with SCANJET G4050.

When I attempted to scan a large (8x10) TRANSPARENCY with my SCANJET G4050, I received an ERROR MESSAGE saying that I needed to remove the backing from the top of the scanner, which would have revealed the top light source. Searching HP's online "support" site indicated that the template may not have been placed correctly. A template for transparencies larger than 5x7 was not included with the scanner. I made my own template but still had no success. I didn't attempt to contact HP "support" in person, knowing they'd probably have no clue. A manager at STAPLES, where I acquired the scanner, suggested deleting the driver and installing a new one. I did that and IT WORKED! So, the PROBLEM WAS SOLVED, but I thought you'd like to know. A response will be appreciated, as well a suggestion for a different solution. NOTE: This problem will likely occur with regular sized transparencies and slides as well, and the solution I stated should also work. Operating system: Windows 7 (64bit).

How much ram do you have on your Machine. Curious...
