Simple Save - md1000h External Drive

Have the above drive connected to my MacBook Pro. The drive ramdomly ejects and I get an error message "Disk not ejected properly". Computer in sleep mode and there is no power failure. Drive is connected to new backup battery. Running HP Launcher software that came installed on the drive.
Anyone else out there have this issue?
