This was my FIRST HP hardware for personal use. Just purchased based on reviews.
The concept by which simplesave software transparently handles backups and changes is good (such as for my wife). However, I have to keep the PC running and up-to-date. I was sorely disappointed in the software configuration. Vs 1.0.2.32
How does one add NEW extensions? Why isn't there a browser for point and click adding them or entire directories?
The old documentation I found had a green "+" for adding new extensions. The current software doesn't.
I noticed in an old manual the "+" was there, new one it isn't. I have numerous file types that need adding, and whole directories.
I tried modifying the Categories.dat file in the:
<Category Name="Other" Selected="1" Customized="0" ResID="179">
<FileType Description="MyCustomFile" Extension="*.zdp" Selected="1"/>
</Category>
What in the world were the engineers thinking and when will they fix these very basic fundamental flaws in the software?

You're not gonna believe the answer to this.
From HP Support:
Thank you for contacting Customer Service and Support for HP.
I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you; the procedure to add files extensions to the new version of Simple Save is as follows. Go to Options > File Type & Locations > Advanced settings > Customer Exclude File Extensions and click on the plus sign enter the desired/custom file extensions you want to backup > uncheck the box > Save > OK and start the backup.
So you first have to exclude the custom the extension, and the un-exclude it. Tht's about as intuitive as labeling an exit door "Entrance."
That is about the dumbest procedure I've ever encountered in the software world.
