So I have this set of programs http://www.hpcalc.org/hp49/math/numeric/ and I want to put some in the HP50g. Could somebody describe me, step-by-step how to proceed?

Tnx in advance

Hi,

The easies way is to use an SD card. You will need an SD card of 2GB or less and it must NOT be an SDHC (HC = high capacity which the 50G cannot read).

1. format the SD card on a computer with FAT (not FAT32, although the 50G can read this, startup is slower).

2. extract the necessary files from the ZIP files downloaded from hpcalc and copy to the SD card (usually have extention .HP or no extention, but also evident that it is not a txt or doc or pdf etc.)

3. there are basically two types of files for the 50g, programs and libraries. Do not be too concerned at this stage whether it is a program or a library, it will become evident later.

4. using the "AFO" and "Calculo Numérico 1148 1.5 " programs in your list as examples:

4a."afo.zip" contains "afo.hp" and "afo.txt", copy the "afo.hp" to the SD card.

4b. "cn1148.zip" contains "CN1148" and "CN1148.TXT", copy "CN1148" to the SD card.

5. insert the SD card into the 50g (it must be OFF), it must be upside down and pushed in slightly deeper than the edge and it will lock flush with the edge.

6. switch ON and open the FILER (whiteshift FILES), highlight "3. SD xxxxxxxxKB" (xxxxxxxx is available space in kilobytes), press on the OK softkey (F6).

7. You will see a list of items on the SD card. It will also show whether it is a program (PROG), library (LIB) or a directory of programs (HPLIB) [note directories on the SD card show as LIB]. There can also be other types e.g. variables of string (STRNG), real (REAL)  etc.

8. the "AFO" is a set of programs in a directory (HPLIB), highlight this and select COPY (F2), then highlight the HOME as destination and select OK.

9. The CN1148 is a Library (LIB), highlight this and select COPY (F2), then highlight either 0:IRAM 1:ERAM or 2:FLASH as destination and select OK. (I usually use 2:FLASH).

10. Exit the FILER by pressing the ON key. Press the VAR key and you should see the "AFO" directory, select it and there will be a lot programs to use.

11. the "Calculo Numérico 1148 1.5 " library CN1148 is not shown yet. Press ON and F3 together. This is a Soft Reset and will not cause any data loss.

12. go to the Library menu (redshift LIB), and you should see "Calcu" above one of the soft keys (you may have to press NXT). Select this for the "Calculo Numérico 1148 1.5 " functions.

NOTE: all the programs are probably written for RPN mode and it is best to have the calculator in RPN mode when you use them.

If you have any problems with the programs, please try to contact the author of the program.

Kind regards,

BartdB
