They sold me a warranty after a year that I had my laptop for additional 2 years for 197. That would make it good till oct 2012. Last october (2011) after a year of it was gone they said it's finished and if I want to buy a new warranty. When I said one more year is left you know what they said? They told me that they had sold me a 2 years warranty starting from a year before. Have you heard of a warranty for the past? That's a new one to me. And my emails and phone calls did nothing. I couldn't even get a supervisor to talk with. {Content Removed: legal discussion} And I thought HP was good in customer service. They suck. Dell is much better.
Just wanted to let everyone beware. I am going to write this everywhere I can.
good day all

Do you go to an insurance company and ask them for insurance for the past year?
Warranty is for future from when you purchase it. Who buys warranty for a past year?

To make it more clear without going in details, I purchased the computer in 2009 with warranty. A year after, when going over a technical issue, he told me he can sell me a 2 year warranty called total care for a discount price. That would be from 2010 to 2012. Right?
Then they tell me it is expired after one year in 2011.
then they say it was from 2009. I already had warranty for 2009. I purchased the new 2 warranty a year later, in 2010, for 2 years from that date not a year already passed.
So I was sold a 2 year warranty in 2010 starting from 2009. Does that make sense?

You should take them to local, Small Claims court. Even a judge can understand your argument. You hopefully will get the filing fee back, and either a pro-rated refund or a new printer. Unfortunately, it won't be as good as the one you had, so go for the money. I'm on #4 in 3 years, and the 6 year old I had is still working, so they quit making ink. I refilled the carts until they wore out. Refilling carts? I know, I'm going to burn in Hell according to HP.
