I have a VAX 7000 Server, clustered with an HSC 70 and an MT24 (4 tape drives and 10 RA90 disk drives). We where trying to do a back up of the system to the tape drives (Exabyte 8200/8500) and the back up failed. Since that event, the tape drives will not register with the VAX 7000 OS. The HSC says the the Tape Server is not loaded, when I type in show tape at the HSC prompt. All lights are green on all the system boards, all lights are green on the HSC 70 and all drives are polling on the MT24 rack. All the indications point to user intervention is required by the Event code 014B, while booting up the HSC 70. I also get at the end of boot up the following: DISK-E Seq.2. out-of-band 000504, Disk Unit 4095 (Req.2, Port 3.) declared inoperable, Intervention required. What I need to know is, what is the Intervention Required to get the tape drives to show up again? I appreciate any advice given on this subject. And I know the system is a dinosaur and power munger, however it provides a vehicle for the Government to do thing for one of they're systems. We would like to shut it down, but that is not feasible at this time. Thank you!

Welcome Caladius.
Wish I could help.
It has been about 25 years since I worked on any DEC equipment.
Worked mostly on 11/780's, 11/785's and a bunch of PDP's.
I did work on HSC 50's but like I said it has been a long time.
Sorry I could not help.

Not a problem! Wish I could finally say it has been 25 years, however, we are down to our last VAX Cluster and it only has 1 HSC. At one time, we had 4 of these beast running in this organization. Just never had this particlular problem before! They are very touchy systems and when 1 things goes wrong, it goes down hill from then on. Thanks for responding!

No help from the community as of this writing. Was hoping that your post was an answer.
I will keep asking until I find a solution. Who knows, maybe I will figure it out on my own. I have been doing this for 10 years now, retirement is sounding better all the time.
