Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server

Read through all of these with high hopes that HP had issued a patch or twonky was fixed of something.  I have had Twonky service turned of since December, with the HP rep promising me a patch would be available January.   Doesn't seem to be the case.

I like the remote desktop fix and will give it a try.  Keep your fingers crossed.  I have over 70 gigs of music, almost all Blues.  I had high hopes for SmartMedia and I am sorely disappointed its only good as an extended harddrive.

tversity sounds interesting too.  Something to make this work.

Anyone want to suggest a noob Windows Server 2003 forum.   Maybe I should just give up on the console entirely.

Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server

I spoke to HP last night, the Twonky patch is due out next week.  It is going to be delivered via HP Update.  Whatever you do, DO NOT INSTALL Twonky 5.1.2 from the Twonky site, it will blow out your Twonky registration and the only way you can get it back is with a server restore or buy a new license from Twonky.

The main fix in the patch is the resolve the 100% CPU issue.

Does anyone else have an issue where the cover art for all the album is wrong?

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server

[ Edited ]

yes, I have the same problems: 100% CPU and incorrect cover art, incorrect album contents ect.

Currently waiting for the console to respond so I can disable Twonky and check for updates...

[Update] BeechV35Pilot's fix described earlier in this thread fixed the problem for me

Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server

I just purchased the EX495 and I'm having the exact same problems.  I am very frustrated that the Media Streamer does NOT work.  I get the same errors  like server not reponding fast enough or no media found.  This really sucks.

Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server

I'm having all the same problems with my new  EX495.   I'm very unhappy with this product and will NOT be recommending it to anyone if HP doesn't get busy and fix these issues.  :smileymad:

Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server BeechV35Pilot

Please excuse me but I'm new to this server stuff and I'm having trouble understanding how to remote log in to the WHS desktop.   I wanted to change the workgroup the server is in but can't seem to figure out this remote logging in to the WHS desktop.  Out of the box the my EX495 creates the workgroup   named  "workgroup" and I wanted the EX495 to belong to my workgroup called  "NET"

Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server

Brand new 495. taken me 4 days to sonfigure and load my data. Now it's totally locked up because of Twonky. What's the point of a media server that does not serve media.

Looking on the web, this has been an ongoing issue with HP for well over a year. Come on HP - fix the issue!!

Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server

I just purchased my X495 and wish I did not!!  I purchased it manly to stream video/music to my office!  What a joke!  My Twonky database is so messed up.  I am going to try the little fix that was mention above in reference to stopping the services.  However is there another way to stream video/music from thsi server that I can use???  I will never recommand this product!

Re: WHS EX485 + Twonky = Unusable Server BeechV35Pilot

I wanted to reiterate and update BeechV35Pilot’s excellent instructions that fixed my issue of jumbled album artwork vs. content.  I did this on my EX490 just now, and it fixed the Twonky “artwork randomizer”.  I just wish the “Rebuild Database” button was renamed “Kinda Rebuild Datatbase”

  1. Remote Desktop into the Windows Home Server (typically Start->All Programs->Accessories->Remote Desktop Connection and enter your server’s name). Then log in using the "Administrator" ID and the password set when you first set up the WHS.  You may get a big “Danger Will Robinson” warning.  If so, just close it.
  2. Once there you will note that it looks like your typical Windows GUI. Stop the TwonkyMedia service: Start->Control Panel-> Administration Tools->Services, locate the "TwonkyMedia" service, right click on it and stop it.  Don’t close the service control panel.
  3. Then click Start->My Computer and navigate to the following folder, which contains the Twonky database folder (twonkymedia.db): D:\folders\{8BA2C80A-EBCE-4EB7-9688-34B7CA729661}
  4. Delete all contents of the above folder (including the “twonkymedia.db” folder -- it may be the only thing in there), but not that long-named folder itself.  Close the window.
  5. Back in the Services control panel (step 2) restart the TwonkyMedia service (right click and start).  Close the service control panel.
  6. Exit out of Remote Desktop by clicking on the RD window's "X" control (which disconnects the RD session but does NOT shut down the WHS computer).

Back in the WHS console (the client-side WHS utility) Go to SETTINGS, bring up Twonky Media window, and select the "MAINTENANCE" tab. Click the "Rebuild Database" button.

Twonky will actually be running even after the rotating semi-circles disappear, so give it some time depending on how many songs you have.
