Why would they make that decision? That sounds funny. I love my HP-11c. What can I do if it dies? Ebay look for used calculator?

Hi,
Well, firstly you ptobably have one of the toughest calculators ever made, here are some stories:
Once More Through The Rinse Cycle, Please!
the HP11C & the Sewage Pump Station
There is also a story of a 12C surviving the journey through a Hippo's intestine (see the last bullet in "Features" in this description of the 12C).
The 11C (together with the 15C) production was stopped in 1989. However, the 12C has been so popular with the finance people that it has continued production for 30 years, making it the calculator model that has been the longest in continuous production.
Unfortunately the 11C is only available as used.
However, with pressure form groups like "Bring back the 15C", HP has decided recently to release a special edition of the 15C: the HP-15C Limited Edition. It is currently for sale in the US at under US$120 (not bad considering your 11C cost about that 30 years ago). In Europe it is around 110 euros.
Just do a search on "HP-15C Limited Edition".
Hope you continue to enjoy HP :-)

Thanks for the info. If this thing is as indestructable as you say I may never need a new one. I l treat mine very gently. It may out live me.
