Windows 7 misidentifies my hd-4110 webcam and it no longer works

My HP hd-4110 webcam worked great (inlcuding with Skype) for a couple of months.  Suddenly, it has disappeared from my device list.  Windows 7 now identifies it as SunplusIT PC Camera.  I've uninstalled all software (Arcsoft) and reinstalled to no avail.  As soon as I plug the webcam into any USB port, it identifies it incorrectly.

Re: Windows 7 misidentifies my hd-4110 webcam and it no longer works

Yeap... those noobs that work for HP are making some propaganda for this "Sunplusit"... I have one, and I do believe that mine is not working anymore, 'cause any computer I install it, it's recognized as SunplusIT PC Camera. This thing is a waste of money... pathetic..

Re: Windows 7 misidentifies my hd-4110 webcam and it no longer works

Just had the same thing happen with my HP 882C printer. Win 7 (64bit) misidentifies it as another type of HP printer. Can't print and can't figure out how to fix it. Interestingly enough the HP software that identifies your HP equipment also misidentifies it.

Re: Windows 7 misidentifies my hd-4110 webcam and it no longer works

I have the exact same problem. It worked for a week, now it's recognized as SunplusIT Pc Camera. I've been emailing back and forth with HP support for months but still no luck.

I tried it on win7 home premium 64, win7 home premium 32 and vista ultimate 32.

Even formatting the HD didnt help. So HP sent me a replacement camera.

The second one  (still HD-4110 but with older firmware) worked for two days. Now it is not recognized at all: the computers don't react at all when I plug it in.

I've decided to give up and return the camera to the shop (I bought it July 2. I think I've been pretty patient).

There is something very wrong with this product

Re: Windows 7 misidentifies my hd-4110 webcam and it no longer works

My HD-4100 webcam will come on after about a minute, stay on for a minute and then crash my computer with a blue screen, indicating usbvideo.sys.  I have a brand new HP desktop, windows xp professional 64 bit and have not had any luck with support from HP.  I am thinking I need to give up unless someone has some ideas.  I am thinking it is the driver.

Re: Windows 7 misidentifies my hd-4110 webcam and it no longer works

Same problem...my webcam worked fine for about 2-3 days then all of a sudden it started taking multiple pics on its own.  I shut it down and have never been able to get it back up and working.  Under device manager- imaging devices- it says SunplusIT PC Camera???  Sucks because pics and videos were good quality.

One other issue I had was upon install and uninstall of the software something was happening that was disabling my wireless network adapter.  An easy fix to re-establish connection but this shouldn't happen?

Called tech support.  Told him the problem and that I unistalled and re-installed software multiple times.  He connected to my computer to have a look...thinking he had a some new great idea/fix....but is all he did was unistall and reinstall the software??  Still not working.

Guess I'll be going back to Best Buy.

To avoid future issues I did a search on google and looked up Windows 7 64 bit compatibility issues with Logitech 910 and Microsoft LifCam Studio.  Apparently all these webcams have issues with this operating system.

Anyone have webcam suggestions that work fine with our operating system?

Nop. I still have no solution for this problem. I'm wondering what HP is waiting to release a fix for it...

Re: Windows 7 misidentifies my hd-4110 webcam and it no longer works

was on the phone with hp for about an hour.  They said if the blue light on the front of the camera doesn't come on than its a hardware issue and to take it back or they would send me another one under warranty.  They said the blue light should come on no matter what once you plug it in to the usb port, regardless of the driver.

The logitech 910 seems to have less issues from the research i've done.  Maybe i'll give that one a try

Re: Windows 7 misidentifies my hd-4110 webcam and it no longer works

Hp sent me a second hd-4110 too but it didnt work either. I took the first one back to the store and they gave me my money back. Now I'm using a Logitech C270. So far no problems running win7-64
