memory card in a photosmart 635

When i try to insert a 4gb memory card in a photosmart 635 camera it doesnt turn on.It works with a 128 mb card.Cant get to menu or display with the 4 gb card

A 4gb memory card may not work in that camera. HP did not test that camera with anything larger than a 128mb card.

Here is the line I'm referring to in the manual:
Memory card—Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMediaCardTM
(MMC). 16 MB is the minimum usable card size and
128 MB is the largest memory card tested by HP. Larger
sizes of cards have not been tested, but they should work—
use at your own risk.
This product only supports the use of MMC memory cards
that have been verified compliant to the MultiMediaCardTM
specification as of January 2000. Compliant MMC memory
cards have the MultiMediaCard logo on the
card. The following memory cards are available from HP:
• 32 MB SD card—C8895A
• 64 MB SD card—C8896A
• 128 MB SD card—C8897A
