Adapter not working with laptop

My laptop computer is not coming on or doing anything. The adapter light does not come on when the adapter is plugged into the laptop. But the mouse lights up when plug into it. My adapter does work on another laptop, but not the one at question (so I guess the adapter is good).  Does anyone knows what the problem my be. Please help!
