Battery Trouble on Hp G61 !! [ Edited ]

Hi, i own the HP G61-306NR

my battery icon has a red X on it when its charging and when its not charging. when i take it off charge the battery life is very short even when it says its been charged to 100%. also when i hover over the icon it says "consider replacing battery".This has happened before and all i did was shut it down or restart it and it would go away. I've done both of those things and this time it wont go away. please help.

It sounds like you may need to replace the battery.  You could try downloading and running the stand-alone battery utility on the link below to confirm this.

I have the exact same problem that is listed above. However, it seems really odd to me that I should have to replace my battery after only 2 years of use. Especially considering that I've had laptops for up to 6 years that have not needed new batteries. I also have 2 other HP laptops that are over 4 years old and still don't need new batteries. It seems to me that this would be a manufacturer's defect and not the consumer's responsibility.

It's probably the battery, I purchased a fedco energy+ replacement that works great.

I purchased 5 of these computers.  2 years later, all of the batteries are failing, and 2 of the keyboards are falling apart, and the adapters are almost useless..  what the heck is HP producing? my last laptop at least lasted 4 years before falling apart. 

Sooooo dissapointed. Wish HP would stand by its products.  no wonder the MacBook Air is making big waves.

I have seen some trouble reports about the Hp G61 battery, that only confirm my suspicion: the battrey check on this machine is doubtful, and the battery is not charged well, even if you replace the battery by a new one. is there maybe a problem with the charger in the laptop. it seems to me the problem starts somehow with a faulty charger and is irreversable. My new battrey lasted less then 2 weeks, it keeps my Hp running less then 5 minutes now.

After replacing my battrery on HP G61 the problem reoccurred very soon, the indicator shows a slow decrease of the charge for the first minutes and then it drops quickly to 25 % and sudenly the PC stopsdead.I think the problem is not originated by the battrey but in the charging device.

in fact I can only use the laptop for less then 5 minutes on battrey power. It won't even start windows and outlook in time to write a short email.
