Re: Battery related question CQ50 139WM

Hi ridz20,

I found this version of the service manual for the CQ50 online: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01572022.pdf On page 10, it shows you the battery status indicator light, and the varying degrees at which it lights (fully, blinking, off) [See pasted text below]. Based on those descriptions (below), I would suggest that your notebook is fully charged (for the 1st time, and each subsequent charging period) once the battery light indicator turns off. On a separate note, I have 2 personal, and 1 work notebook, and I ALWAYS leave each of them plugged into an external power source, unless I'm traveling...

However, your post prompted me to dig a little deeper, and I came across this article as well: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01297640&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=381.... This article suggests that if you are going to exclusively run on AC power longer than 2 weeks, you can prolong the life of your battery by removing it from the system during exclusive outlet power use. (See section under: "Recommended battery care practices". Hope this information is helpful!

Battery light

On: A battery is charging.

Blinking: A battery that is the only available power source has reached a low battery level. When the battery reaches a critical battery level, the battery light begins blinking rapidly.

Off: If the computer is plugged into an external power source, the light is turned off when all batteries in the computer are fully charged. If the computer is not plugged into an external power source, the light stays off until the battery reaches a low battery level.

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
