When I try to uninstall I get an error. It says "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable." Should I try installing HP Support Assistant. This also doesn't seem like a minor problem. This is the third time I have had to restore Windows in the past couple of weeks. I had to restore it today and the problems with the Support Assistant also started today or yesterday. Looks like I may be ready for clean install.

your link worked a treat, kept getting error 404: Page No Longer Exists with the two ftp sites suggested below; plus the new version doesn't just overwrite the old, it uninstalls previous versions, the only 'overwrite' is the unpacking process of the self extracting cabinet file so all who want to, just download the correct version for you hardware (as suggested by the post from Mumbodog) and run...

Step 1. Uninstall HP Support Assistant: start button/control panel/programs. Select HP Support Assistant, confirm uninstall.
Step 2 reinstall HP Support Assistant: Start button/ all programs/recovery manager folder, select Recovery manager file. Select Software Program Reinstallation, select HP Support Assistant from the list.
