Cannot connect to internet

new HP Pavilion dv6 notebook  model A1T71VA, Windows 7

When I go for help it says to use switch on the  front, side or function key.  I only see f12 that is lit up (red) - nothing on front or sides. I cannot get the red light to turn off????  Worked fine for a few days, but must have accidentally turned off wireless capability.

My wireless is working in the house...any suggestions would be appreciated

Re: Cannot connect to internet

there should be a wireless button somewhere around the notebook that looks like a radio tower with waves coming from it. that is a quick answer, but I will look for your manual. give me a moment

Re: Cannot connect to internet

Sometimes it is necessary to do a hard reset to erase all of the information in the temporary memory and regain functionality of your PC when it stops responding. For example, doing a hard reset is helpful if your keyboard quits responding, you cannot get your PC to come out of hibernation or sleep mode, or if a software program causes the PC to freeze.
The hard reset will not delete saved files on the hard drive.
Performing a hard reset
To perform a hard reset, follow the steps below.
1-Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station.
2-Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
3-Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.
NOTE: Holding down the power button while the computer is turned off drains any residual charge in the capacitors.
4-Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.
5-Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.

THEN HOLD FN, Tap F12 if it does not go blue for you

Re: Cannot connect to internet

you mean it wont turn on? Blue = on, red = off. Do you know how to get into device manager? Type device manager in start search, and click the plus or arrow in front of network adapters and tell me what is listed there

Re: Cannot connect to internet

Yes, I mean it won't turn blue. network adapters:
Broadcom 4313802.11b
Realtek PCIe GBE family controller
I was previously told to go to "action" if no LAN network was listed here, but couldn't find "action"

Re: Cannot connect to internet

That broadcom one listed is your 802.11B it should also say b/g at least or b/g/n. anyway, you are on windows 7, so on that one listed, the broadcom right click on it and click UNINSTALL. then if there is a checkbox to remove the software check it. Then UNINTALL. After it completes, restart the computer. IF the computer you are using now is the computer having the issue, unplug the ethernet cord

anyway, windows will detect new hardware. click recommended action. and it will reinstall a driver for that wireless card. With no wired connection to the notebook, look at the wireless button. Is it blue? awesome. is it red? HOLD FN and tap F12 (or whatever F key has that wireless) Is it blue? ISSUE RESOLVED

is it still red?

get back to me :smileyhappy: I monitor all the threads I am active in so unless i get busy, i reply fast :smileyhappy:
