Change action key program on dv7

I've been using the action keys to control my music while I do other things like work, browse the web, or play games on fullscreen and the keys are bound to windows media player. However, recently I've been trying out other music programs like winamp and foobar 2000. Is it possible to make it so when I use the action keys to pause, stop, or change tracks they work for other media players or will they be bound to windows media player forever?

Try VLC Media Player, if VLC can't play it, chances are it cant be played.

It has the most amount of codecs of all the players available, and you can get rid of all the extra bloatware that runs in the background, such as QTime and others.

Set your default player to whatever you want and see if the keys work.

In my case, the volume works the notebook, and VLC works on its own, like a preamp.

Re: Change action key program on dv7

I actually found the action keys do work with other media players, but the other media players have to have the option available in preferences. To do it in Winamp like I was trying, all I had to do was go to Options > Preferences > Hotkeys, and then just check the box to enable them. You can also set the hp hotkeys manually from there too if they're not enabled.

In any case, it's all set now. Thanks!
