Clock on HP G62 laptop losing time but battery OK

Clock keeps losing time. All posts say that the battery must be faulty but when I run the battery check (with and without the external power) the status is always good. How reliable is the battery check and would it pick up any faults causing the clock problem?

Otherwise the general performance of the battery in running the laptop does not seem to have deteriorated significantly since the clock problem started.

I would be grateful for any help.

Re: Clock on HP G62 laptop losing time but battery OK

Hi,

The battery required to keep the system clock running is your CMOS battery and it's probably this that needs replacing.

For an explanation on replacing this, please post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.

Regards,

Re: Clock on HP G62 laptop losing time but battery OK

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Product number: XF287EA

Model number: there was no mention of this on the label but there were two likely candidates:

584037-001 and X16-96072

Thanks again for your help

Tony

Re: Clock on HP G62 laptop losing time but battery OK

Hi Tony,

The battery you will need to replace is the RTC ( CMOS ) battery - the procedure to replace this is detailed starting on Page 51 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

The replacement battery you require is almost certainly a cr2032 ( but check this with the one you remove ) which is easily available at any PC/Electrical store - an example of this battery can be seen Here.

Re: Clock on HP G62 laptop losing time but battery OK

I need to replace the CMOS battery, but I'm having a hard time finding the location. The manual isn't very helpful. Do I need to completely remove the entire bottom of my laptop?
