I believe i am having overheating problems....
It seems that my cq60 laptop in high performance runs at around 90 to my highest of 108 degrees c ! I'm using core temp and speedfan to monitor. This is very worrying but all seems to run perfectly except nearly all videos !! In power saver mode still hovering around 80 when watching videos-still jumping, should this not be nearer 60 ? Graphics is also around 90 ! I am going to try a reinstall but dont really want to please help
Thanks

I received 2 new dv7-2112tx laptops and one shut down after 45 minutes of starting.. The Fan is the problem in this case (not working at all) possibly yours isnt cooling the heatsink of the CPU adequately..

It does sound like it might be overheating. You can go to the manuals on the website to check for sure what the ok temps are just in case. I would update the bios first and get some compressed air and shoot it in the vents. If that doesn't work then call hp. It will probably need service. Also it is adviced to always use your notebook on a hard flat surface not on your lap or any kind of fabric it can draw the material from you clothing and it gets entangled with the fan and slows it down. Those chill pads are great.

Hi
I think in power saver it should be around 45-50C and in HP recommended setting it should be around 65C and on high performance it should be around 75-80C,
Please make sure you are not blocking any air inlets and vents and using notebook on a flat surface which doesnot block air.
If you are not blocking any inlets or vents and you are getting 80C on power saver then you should call support and tell them your problem and get it fixed.
Please also note that running a hot system might fry other components on the board.
I also recommend using a good cooling pad.

I have investigated the overheating on a pavillon notebook.
The fan control is not reliable. It acts fine for a while but then (in a way stochastically - but more often after standby or hibernation) the fan does run very slowly (or even not at all) though the temperature is climbing over 85°C.
It is a FLAWY FAN CONTROL!
I would strongly expect it a fan control system dirver issue, since
- the fan IS working,
- the fan IS [most of the time] regulating and
- the cpu [and other] temperatures ARE displayed correctly [also overheating] on controlling software.
Regrettably HP does not care and does not deliver the necessary driver update or help otherwise.
Shall the customers buy an new hp-notebook every 2 to 3 years.
If they do, HP executives made a right decision (according to shareholders value).
(But very probably I would not buy another hp-notebook after my experiences with the hp suppot (germany and international) .
I have documented my case incl. some hints for technical dealing with the problem here:

With kind Regards,
Heiko
