In the picture of the underside of the keyboard...the pic is flipped horizontaly......
This meas that when the keyboard is the correct way up the brown cable (Backlight) will be pointing to the right side and above the black keyboard ribbon cable.....
In the video when the keyboard is removed there looks to be a white connector on the right side above the keyboard ZIF connector......

yes the bottom of the light panel is where the space bar is and also the plastic fingers at the bottom of the board are at the bottom of the light panel.
definitely going to right.
you have the laptop just pop out the board and check for the tiny connector on board.

I got it from Currys last Tuesday in the sale for £549......
In November i got a DV4 1100EA for £649......and the DV3500EA was next to it for £799.........
I wanted the DV3500EA SO MUCH.....but i didnt have the extra £150 on me......
In December my DV4 1100EA developed a fault with the keyboard so i took it back.......
The manager said ok,just choose something else....but i didnt have the time untill after christmas,so he said leave it till January then.....
So i went in last Tuesday and the DV3500EA wasnt £799 anymore but £549 in the sale.........So i got it....
I even got the difference of £100 give to me on a gift card........
Now thats what i call a DEAL......

Hp technical support say that the part number is 496120-031 for the UK DV3600 keyboard. They cannot confirm whether it will fit the DV3500 and replacing it will invalidate the warranty. The part number they gave me makes sense with what you already mentioned (496120 = backlit, 496121 = standard, -031 = UK, -001 = US).
