DV 3500 Series Backlit Keyboard

I see the "US" DV3500 has a backlit keyboard but the "UK" version dosent......

Are there any plans to have a backlit keyboard for the "UK" market?

Yes, backlit keyboard will be available for European countries.

Im seriously cosidering getting a DV3500 now as they have knocked £200 off the price.......

Its the backlit keyboard i really want tho so im going to see if i can get one sent over from the U.S.......

As its an option over there im hoping it will just swap over and the connector will be on my main board.....If its not then il be able to mod some backlight to shine thru the transparent letters on the keyboard....

I bought the DV3505 for my wife at Xmas,  she loves it,  except for the keyboard. Almost impossible to see.  Does anybody know how I can get this fixed, ie; is the backlight option available ?

4gb ram and 320gb hdd is a bit ott for me and bumps the price up........

there is a keyboard part number for every country for different layout I presume.

Every country seems to have the same models number laptop just with different keyboard for different currency symbols etc.

The US have  496121-001 for standard

                    496120-001 for lighted............

the UK one is 496121-031

They are identical keyboards from what I can see apart from the leds under the US lighted keyboard

It would be good if someone had them both to compare as I contacted HP and they seem to think without even looking it up that they are different as one is Uk and one is US but as you probably know is that they were probably from the same manufacturer factory in singapore anyway.

You can track it down for like 20 GBP on the net maybe give it a try the online manual tells how to change the keyboard piece of cake a few screws on back and take fold keyboard open and unplug....

if someone dose go this route let everyone know how the fitment went....  cheers

I now have a DV3500EA (Standard keyboard) sat here in the box........

But getting hold of the backlit US keyboard is proving difficult......

The part numbers you suplyed are showing as "Part is not orderable in the HP Parts Store"...even the standard UK version that is on my laptop isnt available......

The new DV3610EA has a backlit keyboard and is available to buy from HP in the UK....but iv just called them and they dont know the product number for the backlit keyboard that it has....

look under HP Pavilion dv3000 Entertainment PC and HP Pavilion dv3500 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Servic...

illustrated parts for part numbers,  major components and scroll down notice the US part and the US part lightened..

spoke to Hp and they said the parts in the 3500 manual would be interchangeable but may be a different main board in Us to UK but scroll down to mainboard and there is only one mainboard part for 3500 so should be good.

Also keep scrolling down for all processor, hard drive, memory upgrades.

remove and replacement procedures for info on how to change it...  maybe get a pro to do it to keep warranty but it is easy job?

maybe contact them and find out if the light part in bottom of photo is separate piece or just photo of underside keyboard?  but if separate should attach to it?  maybe ask them.

Im going to open up my "UK" DV3500,remove the keyboard and see if there is a conector on the main board to plug in a US iluminated keyboard........

when you do can you get some photos of the underside and the connections and the area where the keyboard fits in so i can see the mainboard
