I have a HP Pavillion p6115y with Windows Vista, with no extra add-ons since I purchased it. Today, as a couple of times in the recent past, my HP LCD monitor displays text and desktop icons that appear 'elongated', as if the resolution changed.....round icons appear horizontally oval, previously square icons are wider than tall. I've tried a number of things in Control Panel to change it without any luck. Without going thru all I've tried, too much to repeat here, and much of which I can't remember now, can you tell me what to do so the desktop icons and Explorer text aren't strung out ..... and appear more proportional.

Please use the OSD menu on the monitor and perform a factory reset. The following link explain the usage of OSD menu on the monitor using the buttons on monitor:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01725831.pdf
Also, install the monitor driver from the following weblink:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp47001-47500/sp4747
Restarting the system should solve the problem.

Vidya

I just finished what you described but it didn't make any difference... no change to my desktop display. Any other ideas?

Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button
, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. In Device Manager, locate the device you want to update, and then double-click the device name.
Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver and follow the instructions. Try to search for the update in web.

Other than disc drivers, I found 2 Nvidia drivers in Device Manager. One is display driver GeForce 9100, which says Windows stopped because of a "Code 43" problem, so I can do nothing with it. The other is network adapter Nvidia Nforce 10/100 which is "working properly."
