Extreme Overheating of HP dv4-1152 (not-environmental related)

[ Edited ]

Ok, I have a dv4-1152 running vista (64). 4 gigs memory and 4 gig processor.  I use the laptop at room temperature.

The laptop is overheating but it's too the point of insanity.  I can just have the OS open with the background processes running or I can have it in safemode with the screen open or closed and this thing has to be hitting at least 55C as fast as it can after I turn it on.

There is no hair or obstructions blocking the fan or air intake.  It's been doing this since I've gotten the thing.  The second I turn it on til when I turn it off, the fan is putting out all its got.  Doesn't matter the position of the laptop, I have have it open on it's back and it will do it ad infinitum.  I can put the darn thing on maximum or minimum performance setting, it does not matter

I have a presario that is quite as a mouse, granted it's only 2 gigs of memory and a 2 gig processor.  It doesn't heat up unnecessarily.

I also have a dv4z-1000 running vista (32) with 3 gigs of memory and a 3 gig processor. That is also quiet doesn't heat up unnecessarily

So lemme put it this way, the problem is not envrionmental.  So any ideas?

Install speedfan and check out the actual temperature. 55C is not actually very hot for a laptop. You might try a BIOS update as fan speed at various temperatures is controlled by the BIOS. How long have you had it? It might need an internal cleaning out from dust and grime and to have the processor heatsink reseated and new thermal compound applied.

internal cleaning nor dust nor grime has anything to do with the overheating problem that plagues the dv4 brand.

anyone with helpful ideas?
