Re: Freezes on HP screen! pls help!!!

With the NB off.. pull the power and the battery from it.  Wait 30 seconds.. then take a small philips screwdriver and open all the panels - NOT the inset screws that hold the NB case together - and remove the hard drive(s) and the memory sticks.  Once removed, put them back.. being careful to make sure they are securely connected.

Reboot.

If it's still stuck on the HP screen.. you may have to remove the BIOS battery.. or replace it.

If nothing after all that.. it's going to need repair.

Re: Freezes on HP screen! pls help!!!

Try Booting in to BIOS (F10 on start-up) and then hitting F9 in Bios to reset the Bios defaults, that can help. If that doesn't work, then you have either a bad BIOS, Bad Memory, or Bad Hard drive. I would try doing a Memory test and Hard Drive test from the Diagnostic Tab of BIOS. If one of those fails, then you knwo your problem, if they both pass, then you might have a bad BIOS that isn't letting you get to your operating system. If that is the case your notebook is going to be serviced for sure.

It sounds like your hard drive has failed, the reason for the delay/lock up is because it's trying to detect the device in your system.

If your comp is under warranty/guaranty then send it to HP.

If you fiddle with the innards, unless told to do so by an HP tech,  you may void your warranty.

Removing all external usb devices if any.

More importantly I think either your hard drive and/or motherboard need replacement.

Exactly...Take out your hard drive and set it aside in a safe location...then power it on and I'll bet you'll have no problem booting in to the BIOS.

Re: Freezes on HP screen! pls help!!!

this sounds familiar...

you wouldn't perchance have a Seagate drive in your computer? the same thing happened to me:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=TouchSmartPC&thread.id=287

the drive hangs due to a firmware bug and never goes to POST. the BIOS usually hangs as a result. I would, as suggested before, take out the drive and see if you get to BIOS.

let me know what kind of drive you have and maybe i can help you further...
