G72 Laptop Light

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to fix something on my laptop. Earlier today, my mouse pad was locked and I had no idea how to enable it again. I had to turn off my computer and restart it and it worked again. I called HP about the problem and they explained to me how to enable and disable the mouse pad. The problem I have is that there used to be the tiny light on the left corner of the mouse pad that was bright white and now it is off. The only time the light goes on is when I lock the mouse and the light is amber or orange. Does anyone know how to fix this minor issue. I know it's not a big deal but I want things on my laptop the way they were and I system restored and it still hasn't fixed.

Re: G72 Laptop Light

It sounds like your touchpad is working correctly: when it is enabled, there should be no light coming from the small LED indicator on the touchpad, and when it is disabled it should glow an amber color. It may not have been functioning correctly when you saw the white light, but now that it is working right it is showing the correct.

You might also swing by this site to check out other options your computer has! There's a bunch of info to find simply by typing in your product number and searching!

Hope this helps,

Re: G72 Laptop Light

Hiyaaaa sir!

Thanks for your help! I still have no bright white keyboard light on my mouse and I haven't checked the support and drivers yet because I am not sure what exactly to look for. Can you tell me where in specific I should be looking? Or what I should be downloading and what not?

I am paranoid about downloading things when I don't know what I am supposed to download.

Re: G72 Laptop Light

I would say as long as it is working correctly, don't try to fix it! lol.

But yes if you ever need to fix a driver issue www.hp.com/support is helpful to get the specific drivers for your system. Just type in your product number in the search field, press Enter, and then click on the "software & drivers" link. Then select your OS, and it will give you a list of most of the drivers for your system.

Hope this helps!

Re: G72 Laptop Light

For Synamtics LuxPad

Switch TouchPad Off

If you do not wish to use the TouchPad, you can switch it off. Double tap the upper left corner of the TouchPad. The TouchPad icon in the task bar will change to indicate that the TouchPad is unavailable for use.

To switch the TouchPad back on, double tap the upper left corner again. The icon in the taskbar will return to the enabled state.

Re: G72 Laptop Light

Hi All,

I've had a similar problem in that I can manage to turn the touchpad off (when I Don't want to), but can't get it back on again!  No amount of double clicking seems to work!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Re: G72 Laptop Light

How do I enable the mouse pad again once the orange light comes on and disables the mouse, etc.  Very frustrating!

Re: G72 Laptop Light

I am having the same problem, as seen below, and double-tapping does not help; in fact, nothing seems to but re-booting.  There's got to be a simple answer...

Re: G72 Laptop Light

I have the same problem.  It doesn't happen all the time, but it did happen last night and again today.  I must be hitting a key wrong but not sure what.  I need to get this figured out too.   When I can't use the mouse pad, the red light comes on and I have to force shut the laptop down.

Re: G72 Laptop Light

Dear HP Forum,

I had this problem last December 2011 and posted on the HP Forum. I found the fix and now the problem came back and I cannot locate the fix anywhere. Does anyone have a reply for the fix to this problem?

Thank you, Paul
