How to use the guide

[ Edited ]

A How to use the guide

It is very important to do everything step by step, because any change in the order of performing the steps can lead to failure.  Each point of this guide is started with a brief description of what will be achieved by following the instructions that have been placed at that point.

If the software and driver for the fingerprint reader, which you currently use does not support the latest versions of browsers, then you may solve this problem using information, software and driver which are included in this guide to change this situation.

When there will be a problem and need to ask a question, it is required to start a new topic (make a post). Please post the details of the problem, your notebook product number (p/n) and which system are you using on this model (Windows 7, Windows 8, 32-bit or 64-bit).

Install the latest driver and software for the fingerprint reader

[ Edited ]

D Install the latest driver and software for the fingerprint reader

The third step is to install the latest driver and software for the fingerprint reader.

Here we use the knowledge gained in the first step, because we need to know, which fingerprint sensor has been used in a laptop to select the right driver.

The following instructions are required to ensure proper operation of the fingerprint reader.

First download and install the right fingerprint sensor driver.

If your notebook uses:

a) the Authentec Fingerprint Sensor then download the driver from here (ver 3.4.4.1027);

    Extract the ' WBF3.4.4.1027.zip ' file using 7-Zip software.

Browse to the ' Installers ' folder.

    Double-click:

    - the WBFminNOSAx86 file if you have a 32 bit version of Windows 7;

    - the WBFminNOSAx64 file if you have a 64 bit version of Windows 7;

     Resource:

How to determine whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows

b) the Validity Fingerprint Sensor then download the driver from here (ver 4.4.234.0).

Once the driver is installed, proceed to install the software.

Download the HP SimplePass by Authentec software from here (ver 6.0.100.252).

Extract the file using 7-Zip software and double-click the extracted file to start

the installation process.

Click the ' Next ' button.

Capture_1.png

Select ' I accept the terms in the license agreement ' and choose ' Next '.

Capture_2.png

Click ' Next '.

Capture_3.png

Select ' Install ' to continue.

Capture_4.png

The installation will start up.

Capture_5.png

Choose ' Finish '.

Capture_6.png

Click the ' Start Start.png button.

Type in the search box ' HP simple ' and choose ' HP SimplePass '.

Capture_7.png

Swipe the finger which you decided to enroll three times.

Capture.png

Capture_2.png

Capture_3.png

Click the ' Set Up Windows Log On ' button.

Capture_4.png

Type your Windows password and choose ' OK '.

Capture_5.png

Capture_6.png

Congratulations! Your notebook is now secured with your fingerprint sensor.

Select ' OK '.

Capture_7.png

It is highly recommended to enroll at least two fingers. If you decide to do that you will have to swipe the finger which you decided to enroll as second three times in the same way as the first finger. To do this point one of the fingers and click the blue circle with a plus.

Capture_8.png

When this process will end with success the enrolled finger will have a green circle and on the bottom part of the aplication will show up message ' Succesful. Fingerprint enrolled '.

Backup and Recovery

[ Edited ]

F Backup and Recovery

It's always good to make backup of important data, because this is a way to protect against data loss. Logins and passwords that will be stored in the HP SimplePass software are such important data.

Keep in mind one very important rule. When you add a new login and password to the software it's important to create a new backup. This will ensure the safety of new entries. If you will try to recover the data from a file that was created before adding new logins and passwords then this file will allow you to recover only the old entries.

The fifth point will show how you can backup the data, and how this backup can be used to recover the data if necessary.

BACKUP

Click the ' Export Passwords ' button.

Capture_24.png

Type (create) password and click ' Next '.

Capture_25.png

Capture_26.png

Type the file name and select ' Save '.

Capture_27.png

Do what is suggested.

Capture_28.png

Choose ' OK '.

Capture_29.png

RECOVERY

Click the ' Import passwords ' button.

Capture_30.png

Choose the backup file and click ' Open '.

Capture_31.png

Type the password which you used while doing backup.

Capture_32.png

Click ' OK '.
