HP 2140 Touch Pad problem

Hi,

i recently bought a HP Mini 2140. It was running windows XP however i changed it over to Windows Vista Basic (32bit) - it came with the 2 options of OS. I have installed all the required drivers.

When i try and use the touch pad scroll it freezes the mouse completely. I can't move the mouse at all. I have to restart the notebook and it will work again. Sometimes i have shut all the applications down and left it idle and eventually it starts working again (doesn't always work).

Does anyone know why this is? and how i can stop it from doing this? It's very annoying!

Re: HP 2140 Touch Pad problem

I don't have much experience with Minis but I'll give a suggestion.

You mentioned that you download all drivers.  Is it possible you might have missed the drive for the touchpad?  Try to download that driver, again, from the HP site.  Let us know if there is any change.

Re: HP 2140 Touch Pad problem

You've installed the latest Synaptics Touchpad Driver?  If closing other applications makes it work again, it might just be a resource usage problem.  We can also try checking the system files....

System File Checker

To determine whether the issue that you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions.

Click Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, right click on the Command Prompt option, then click on the Run as Administrator option.

If you haven’t disabled the User Account Control, you will be asked for permission first...just continue on.

In the Command Prompt window, type: "sfc /scannow" then press enter.

The scan may take some time (usually 5-15 minutes) and Windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files...once complete type "exit" and press enter, then restart the notebook.
