HP Compaq Presario CQ61z-300 Not Recognizing Charger is Plugged In

HP Compaq Presario CQ-61 Model # CQ61z-300

Serial # CNF9483FHT

Product # VUO87AV

AMD Processor, Windows 7 Home Premium

My laptop does not charge even when plugged in. It acts as if it is NOT plugged in. The charge indicator light will not stay on. Sometimes the light comes on and it resumes charging if I jiggle the plug around (I don't want to do this but it's the only thing I can do that ever works). But lately that is not even working. Either the light just blinks and goes right back out or just does nothing.

Is this a problem with my charger? Or is it something inside of the computer itself? Something else?

I purchased the computer new in December 2009.

Sounds like the DC socket on the laptop is damaged, use a flashlight in inspect the socket where the ac cord connects on the laptop, is it damaged at the center pin?
