HP Elitebook 6930p Serial Number Change

I have an elitebook 6930p and the serial number in the bios is 1. That's it, just the number 1. But the real number is on the bottom of the case. Is there a software utility that will allow me to change the bios serial number so it matches the real serial number on the case?

Hi:

Unfortunately the only folks that can change the serial number on an HP notebook PC, is an authorized HP serivce center where they have the programming to "tattoo" the BIOS with the correct model number/serial number.

There is a program available that will change some HP desktop serial numbers and asset tags, but it won't work on notebooks.

Boot the 6930p and system and press the Esc key to enter the BIOS.

On some models you may have to then press F10 for System Setup.

Use the arrow keys to navigate to the File tab then arrow down until System Information is selected.

Do not press Enter at this time.

You should now have File > System Information highlighted, but you have not yet pressed Enter and the System Information display is not open.

Press Ctrl + A simultaniously (Ctrl A).

Nothing apparent will happen.

Use the arrow keys to navigate to the Security tab then arrow down to until System IDs is selected.

Press Enter.

You should now be able to edit several information fields that are typically displayed under System Information but are not typically available for change in the Security > System IDs area.

After making the desired modifications, press the F10 key to accept changes.

Use the arrow keys to navigate to File > Save Changes and Exit, then Press Enter.

That's good to know you can do that on these newer Elitebooks.

I know you can do that procedure on the 6200 Pro and 8200 Elite business desktops.

I have a 6930p.

I'll have to go thru the motions and try it out.
