I have an HP HDX16-1200 CTO laptop and have been having a strange power problem for the last year. The power supplied to the computer goes on and off when I'm using it (goes on and off on a regular basis too). The strange thing that is happening is the power supply remains on (does not cut in and out) when the computer is off, in sleep mode or hibernation. Geek Squad at Best Buy did a full restore and did not find any software issues. I have been looking everywhere for an answer. I'm not sure if it would be a motherboard issue or the dc jack. I did test my power suppy and it puts out the correct amperage. Thanks!

You can test the notebook's power jack by wiggling it gently where it connects to the notebook when the power fluctuation happens.

The GeekSquad guy told me that the dc jack is fine, the laptop power adapter is fine, and that there are no burn marks on the motherboard. I'm assuming I will need to replace the motherboard. HP is ridiculously expensive and I wanted to know if there were any good/cheap places to buy one from? Thanks!
