Re: HP Hard Drive Check

Hi,

You will start to get Smart warnings when the number of read or write errors to the HDD exceeds a certain number as this is a fairly good early indication that the drive is failing.

Make sure you have a back-up of all your files etc.

You could see if the following process helps at all, but if you still get Smart errors after this you should really consider replacing the HDD.

From the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Part of this process will require a restart to check the drive.

Regards,

Re: HP Hard Drive Check

Hi,

I know you must be disappointed and it's unusual for a drive to last only a year, but certainly not unheard of.  On the brighter side, replacing the Hard Drive is a fairly straight forward procedure and needn't cost a fortune.

The drive on the link below would be fine for your notebook.

500Gb Hard Drive

Although the Model of the notebook in the video below is different to your, the procedure to replace the HDD will be very similar.

Replacing HP Hard Drive

The procedure is also covered starting on Page 53 of your Service and Maintenance guide on the link below.

Service and Maintenance Manual

Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.

If you don't have your Recovery Discs, try the link below to order a replacement set of discs.

If you have any problem using the above link, you can order them from HP directly Here.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

All the best,

DP-K
