HP Notebook Smart Power Adapter

I just bought a new power cord for my Pavilion Notebook (dv2 series), and it does not fit. My original power cord had a yellow tip, and the adapter (listed on the box as a "dongle") that came has a black tip and does not fit well either. The instructions that came with the new cord say to "try the cable connecter with the yellow tip first" - but there is no piece with a yellow tip.

Am I missing something?
