HP Pavilion DV6 touchpad not working, and now the keyboard is not working

I'm having a strange problem. The spot you touch up top is not activating or deactivating the touchpad. It is as though it is not connected to the computer anymore. I already updated the drivers to try to fix, didn't work.

Under computer propersties>hardware, it shows up as Synaptics PS/2 port toucnpad, with the image of a mouse on the left, if that helps at all. When I right click on it I can't change any settings or properties.

And now my laptop keyboard doesnt work, but the logitech keyboard I previously installed with the computer does work, and operates the lights on the laptop keyboard as well. Help would be greatly appreciated.

My product number is WQ615UA#ABA

Windows 7

Did not recently make any hardware or software changes.

Hi,

Uninstall your current driver for the Synaptics TouchPad and restart system.

Resource:
Uninstalling Software in Windows 7

Uninstall or change a program in Windows 7

Download and install latest version from here.

Restart system and check the result.

Did that already, didn't work. However, my keyboard started working again. Any other ideas?

Re: HP Pavilion DV6 touchpad not working, and now the keyboard is not working

Well, on mine, the keyboard works fine. But from time to time, all of a sudden Tap-to-click is disabled, and the mouse moves erratically towards the top right corner whenever I try moving it. Annoying as hell, sometimes restarting the computer helps, but others it doesnt and I end up using a USB mouse. Annoying.

Hi,

Please perform a hard reset:

  1. Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC.
  2. Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
  3. Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices.
  4. Press and hold down the power button for about 1 minute to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
  5. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC; but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
  6. Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.
  7. If prompted to boot into Safe Mode or select a special type of start up, use the arrow keys to highlight Start Windows Normally , and then press the enter key.

Re: HP Pavilion DV6 touchpad not working, and now the keyboard is not working

Thanks for your reply; however following this process did not work. In fact, my keyboard stopped working again after doing this. The keyboard started working again when I put the computer to sleep and promptly woke it up. Restarting did not fix it.

I'm not sure that I understand what you tried to say.

The keyboard is working and you still have problem with the TouchPad? Is that correct?
