HP Pavilion dv5-1017 getting really HOT!

Hi, I need some help. I have a HP Pavilion dv5-1017nr that I purchased about a year ago. Ever since it was new the left hand rest area gets really hot, it gets so hot that it hurts my hand sometimes, the silver coating has even bubled and peeled. The fan works so that isn't the issue, and even on a flat surface or cooling pad it happens. Now my screen is flickering and I think that the heat may be wreaking other components. I spent like 1700 on this and it is only a year old, what can I do? I have tried downloading and installing all of the updates I can find.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks

Re: HP Pavilion dv5-1017 getting really HOT!

IT could be the fan being dusty, it could be the way you use it if you use it on your lap blocking the vents. Could be the graphics card or harddrive. If you believe that you had the notebook for just about a year you should contact HP to see the warrenty status. It is advised to stop using the unit until you get this issue looked at

Re: HP Pavilion dv5-1017 getting really HOT!

You should determine what temperature the PC is running at - it's probably running too hot and hence the fan is working all the time. I've got the same issue with my AMD based DV5 - I've read it was a sigificant issue for the AMD line of notebooks, but you appear to have an Intel T4200. Everest from lavalys is a robust program to determine CPU temp and others related to the CPU. Check/post around for input, but if the fan's running soon after a cold start and the temp gets above 40/50, then you should contact HP and seek service options.

Re: HP Pavilion dv5-1017 getting really HOT!

The vents are not blocked and the fan is not dirty, I think the warranty has run out. I don't know why I didn't call warrenty before, I just thought this one must run hotter than my othe. But I will call warrenty and try to get help, since my screenis flickering. it honestly has been getting hot since day one. Thanks for your reply,

Re: HP Pavilion dv5-1017 getting really HOT!

I guess my thinking was that all computers are different and this one just got hotter. My house burned last year so I had to get this one on the spur of the moment in order to keep up with my online college. I loved my previous Pavillion, I appreciate your input and thought it was a good possibility that this was a common issue.
