HP Pavilion dv7-3190em problems with volume strip and "base system device" in device manager

Hi,

I've just installed Win 7 (64bit) and my volume control isn't working properly. It does turn the sound up and down, but the blue strip isn't showing on the screen.

Also, I seem to have a device or devices for which there are no drivers apparently. They're listed as "base system device" x3 in the device manager, and "unknown device" x1.

Thanks for any help.

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-3190em problems with volume strip and "base system device" in device m

Hi:

You probably need to install these 3 drivers:

1. Chipset. Install first and reboot.

2. IMEI driver:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-79163-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...=

3. Either the Realtek or JMicron Card reader driver--whichever reader you have. You can either post the device details ID string so I can identify which one you have, or you can install one and if it doesn't work, install the other.

Realtek:

JMicron:

For enhanced HDD performance and power saving, you should also install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver:

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-3190em problems with volume strip and "base system device" in device m

You're very welcome.

If you run into any issues please post back with the device details ID string for any missing devices remaining.

You can find this info by clicking on your missing device in the device manager. Then click on the details tab. In the Properties window, drop down to the second item on the list in the dropdown menu (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters you see there.

That identifies the manufacturer, device type and model. Then hopefully we can pinpoint the driver for it.

Cheers!

The chipset driver installed without problems. IMEI driver installer gave me this message: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements to install this software". What to do?

The device details are as follows:

PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&SUBSYS_365C103C&REV_00
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&SUBSYS_365C103C
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&CC_088000
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&CC_0880

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-3190em problems with volume strip and "base system device" in device m

Hi:

That is odd that they provide a driver for that on the notebook's support page and it doesn't work!

Anyway that is not your problem. The missing device is your JMicron card reader.

So, give these drivers a go and you should be all set.

Please let us know if that takes care of all your missing devices.

We've made small progress: the "base system devices" have been sorted out. However, the "unknown device" is still not recognised. Hardware IDs:

ACPI\ENE0100
*ENE0100

And I still can't get the volume strip to show up when I use the touch panel.

W00t!!! This did the trick:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-75516-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...

Now I just need to take care of the volume strip.

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-3190em problems with volume strip and "base system device" in device m

Hi:

How about giving the Quick Launch Buttons driver a try to fix that volume strip thing...

HP Quick Launch Button software (32-bit and 64-bit), sp46731

If that doesn't solve the problem, I hope that someone else can help you, because this is the only thing I could think of.

Download and install:

MediaSmart SmartMenu here (version 3.1.2.2  for 32/64 bit Win7)

Before you will install this software you need to have installed at least one software from MediaSmart package. The best choice will be in my opinion:

MediaSmart DVD here (version 4.1.4328  for 32/64 bit Win7)

If You don't want to use so many extra software then you may use other product which is:

3VRX here (ver 2.5 for 32/64 bit Win7)

Note:

Here is YouTube video which shows what can be done with 3VRX software.
