HP Update and HP Support Assistant

Is it necessary to have and use HP Update and HP Support Assistant? Doesn't HP Support Assistant do everything HP Update does plus even more? It seems like HP Support Assistant was created to replace HP Update.

Hi:
I agree with you.
The support assistant is a program that includes searching for updates along with other features like the tune up, etc.
I see no need for both (actually, I see no need for either).
I will say this...I would change the support assistant's default setting of automatically download and install updates. I have read where that thing was running BIOS updates in the background while people were working on their PC's with antivirus programs running, etc, only to have bad things happen.
If you like the support assistant, my recommendation is to change the default setting to notify and let me choose which updates to install--or whatever the closest option to that is.
