Hi All,
I have bought my HP dm4-1160us model yesterday from Staples. When i use it for first time, I found one strange issue with it's touch pad. When i click right click button on touchpad, i couldn't see right context menu displayed, Also same problem with left click button as well. I couldn't select any text while pressing left button or so...
Anybody, please help me if you know the solution for this. I am sure that it's some configuration issue, but your ideas are very important for me...!!!
cheers
Kiru

Most likely the Touchpad is turned off, see this guide to turn it on
Go to: Pointing devices and keyboards>Using Pointing devices>Using the TouchPad> Turning the
TouchPad on and off

Thanks for your response.
I know my touchpad is enabled, because i could do all tap single/double clicks except left/right button clicks on touch pad. For example, I have tried holding right click button for 2 mints to see right context menu to appear, but of no use.
Any ideas are welcome in this regd.
thanks

Hi,
Go to:
Control Panel -> Mouse -> Devices Settings
Click there ' Device Settings ' tab. Choose ' Synaptics TouchPad ' and little lower click on ' Settings... '. From the list which will be there select ' Buttons ' and check is this option enabled.
If it's enabled then check what kind of actions are choosen for left and right touchpad buttons. By default it should be:
- for left button - Primary Click (Normal Select, Normal Drag)
- for right button - Secondary click (Context Menu, Special Drag)
I'm not sure that this is solution for your problem, but it will be good to check this.

Dan, Thanks for your reply.
I had same settings before as you have prescribed, anyhow i have double-checked and ensured that i have same settings. But still my problem remains. I think we are almost there, except one small configuration.
Please let me know if you have any further ideas....
Advanced Kudos...

Hi again,
Uninstall your current driver for Synaptics TouchPad.
Resource:
Uninstalling Software in Windows 7
Uninstall or change a program in Windows 7
Download and install latest version:
Synaptics TouchPad driver here
When above solution will still not solve this problem then you should go back to Staples and ask for a refund.
Of course, great solution is changing current laptop on the same model.
If you want to choose this second option then I propose to check in shop is this second model having the same problem or not. This will certainly save you time and frustration.

Hi,
It's All DONE...I got the solution.
The problem was due to the physical layout of touch pad. New piece itself has come with that inconsistent design. Where the left and right buttons side on touch pad was not sitting properly, instead it has come out little bit up like in a slant position. Don't know why, just did a hard push down on buttons side of the touchpad today...that's it it...suddenly i heard some sound like fit inside in a correct position and now my touch pad is flat...!!! Tried left and right button clicks...WOW...worked.
I have almost given up for using left & right click on my touchpad, instead i have started using my mouse....
Thanks...

I bought the latest hp laptop with 1 piece touchpad from staples and the right click button didnt work. I ordered another one off of amazon and it works a little better but these 1 piece mouse pads are garbage. its suck that hp cut costs on this cause this laptop has a lot of good things about it.
