HP dv6-3210us shuts off randomly

Hello all,

Recently my laptop has been having a problem where it randomly shuts off during normal use.  It isn't Windows shutting down, but rather the computer just turns off (like if I had held down the power button).  It happens on and off every few days.  I think it happens more often when I am doing more graphics intensive things like watching videos or playing games.  The problem started a few weeks ago when I changed some graphics settings in the Catalyst Control Center.  I later reset those to factory defaults, but the problem still persists.  I know that the problem doesn't relate to software, because it has happened to me not only in Windows, but also while using the HP Diagnostics tool (the UEFI boot thing), and while booting from various recovery disks and USB drives.  My computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1, has a dual core AMD Phenom XII running at 3GHz, 4 GB of RAM.  I have run the HP Support program and gotten all the latest BIOS updates and nothing has helped.  Any ideas?

Re: HP dv6-3210us shuts off randomly

Would like to add that my HP DV6 does exactly the same thing. I hasten to add that the battery died on mine and has had the problem since. Even when running on mains, it can and will just switch itself off... Sometimes its a few hours before I can switch it back on.

Leading up to this, I noticed that not always did the computer acknowledge charging when the mains jack was connected. I am desperate to remedy this as I use this machine for work. :-(

Re: HP dv6-3210us shuts off randomly

I had to resort to sending it in to HP, as mine was under warranty. You can check warranty status and find the phone number using HP support assistant on your computer or find the phone number on this page:

After repair mine is up and running better than ever. I hope this helps and your computer gets fixed.
