HP dv6500 series will not turn on

I have a Dv6500.  It also has developed a blank screen on startup. The unit goes out to look at the CD Rom then the Hard drive, then it just stops with all those pretty blue lights on.  You can turn it off by pressing the on off button again. I removed the Bios backup battery and the main battery. press the on power button for 40 seconds.  The computer starts right up. It will not restart when you shut it down again. The computer runs well once I get it to turn on.  I am very confused about this problem. Power supplies usually crap out over time not when they first turn on. The fact that the computer runs well once I get it running rules out any problems with the drive or power supply. The key seems to be bios related. I removed the Bios battery and that seems that allows the bios to set back to its factory settings. I have not re-installed it. I run the unit without the bios backup battery and the main battery. could this be a bug that attacts the bios program.  Perplexed !!!!!!!!!!!

For all whose computer will turn on in any sense of the word. Try repeatedly tapping ctrl+alt+delete as soon as you push the power button. push tap all three together as if trying to open five hundred task managers at the same time. As soon as your display turns on, stop tapping ctrl+alt+delete otherwise it will shut off again for some reason.

Thanks, I was unable to boot at all, this works. Is there any idea of what the problem is or how to fix it beyond this?

The crt+alt+del worked for me for a while.. after that the whole thing just took a **bleep**. Most problems I've ever had with a comp came from this guy.. never again hp, never again.

Hi as far as the hard drive is concerned you can plug it into any other computer to recover the contents. Your hard drive is fine. If you have a desktop computer just plug it in there.

The most popular solution for this issue is to use a heat gun on the Nvidia chipset.

Hi guys I am having the same sort of problem aswell. I am a PC laptop repair technician and I have never came across this before. I am working on the dv6500 series HP Pavilion. When I power it on I get the HP screen and all the lights round the edge battery light etc. After a few seconds when the HP screen goes away and the laptops starting to go through the BOOT process it seems as if its unable to pick up the operating system the screen goes black. I tried to mini XP it with hirens boot, when I tried this it failed miserably. It got as far as loading the file then i got the black screen again and then it appeared with 3 columns of white lines down the screen.

Any one got any ideas on how I can resolve this issue?
