HP dv9812us does not turn on (LEDs turn on then off)

The HP dv9812us does not turn on. When I power it on, all of the blue lights come and about a second later they all turn off. This happens regardless of whether or not the battery is in. The only I can keep the lights on is by pressing escape or tilda or both a few times. If I do that, then I hear the computer spin up the optical drive (which is empty). None of this generates a picture.

 

I took out the RAM and put it back in, as well as the hard drive, none of it helped.

 

Any ideas? All help will be greatly appreciated!
