I Just got a dv6 4 weeks ago and it has over 600GB hard drive and now I only have 1.27MB left. I have no idead how that happened. There is no way I have enough programs/software to take up that much space. Please help

Re: Hard Drive disk space filled up without reason

Hi,

From the Start Menu, open Computer.  Which partition is showing it only has 1.27Mb left?  Is it the D Partition?

Regards,

Hi,

You will need to remove some files from your C Drive to create some more space before continuing.  From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, open System Tools and launch Disk Cleanup.  After the window with the green bar has completed, in the following window, click 'Clean Up System Files'.  Again, wait for the green bar to complete and in the following window click the 'More Options' tab.  Click on the lower of the two clean up buttons and click delete in the pop up window.  Hover the cursor over the Ok button in the previous window and when this turns blue, click it and check your Disk space.

A useful utility for viewing all the files on your PC is called Free Commander, on the link below, as it displays folders that the Operating System normally hides and has a good search function.

http://www.snapfiles.com/php/download.php?id=107872&a=7122339&tag=601108&loc=10

This is a zipped file.  If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.  When installed, run this program and see if you can locate where all your drive space is being used.  To do this, click C in the Toolbar, click the view tab and select details and then order the list by size.

Re: Hard Drive disk space filled up without reason

Hi,

From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and open Folder Options.  Click the View tab, fill in the radio button titled 'Show hidden files folders and Drives' and click Apply to make the change.

From the Start Menu, open Computer and open Local Disk C.  Post back with the names and size of the folders listed here.  If a folder does not show its size, double click to open it and you will probably have to click a prompt to get permission to view it.  Do this and then close the folder again and it should now report its size correctly.
