Hi TriciaMcL,

Can you post your model number, that will help in providing more specific answers.

In general take a look at the following documents and see if they help:

Reducing Heat and Fan Noise by Cleaning Air Vents

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01657439&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4323558&tmp...

Fan Runs Constantly, the PC Operates Slower than Expected and Generates Heat

Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Re: How do I stop my laptop from overheating? The fan keeps on going.

Please check what part of the Notebook is over heating. This can happen beacuse of two reason, First Fan and heat sink is not behaving the way it is expected to. Second the battery is over heating. Please check the regions you can see excess heat. This may require a repair. if your product is in Warranty call up HP Total care for US and Canada Tech Support ring 1-800-474-6836.

Hope this helps to gain better understanding on the issue.

I am Notebook Support Specialist. This is my opinion. I am not an official Spokes Person for HP.

I work with HP. I am not Official Spokesperson.

Re: How do I stop my laptop from overheating? The fan keeps on going.

Hi.

I'm giving your options a go to see if I can get my laptop so I can use it in the summer without nearly burning my hands!

The second option suggest updating BIOS version. The problem is I have two choices and don't know which one to select.  I have a NX6325 XP PRO with BIOS 68TT2 Ver.F.06.  There's a Ver.F.07, actually, two of them.

Which of these should I try:  Remote ROM Flash - SSM compliant  vs FreeDOS Bootable Media

Thanks! KarenLeePA

Please install F.07. That is the latest. Try remote ROM flash as it would be easier than Freedos bootable media.
